About Leif Reid
Mr. Reid's practice covers both northern and southern Nevada and focuses primarily on administrative law and regulatory matters, including compliance with state and federal environmental laws, electrical utility law and laws governing the distribution of alcoholic beverages within the state of Nevada. Mr. Reid has represented clients in complex civil litigation and property law disputes in Nevada’s Federal and State District Courts, in appeals before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Nevada Supreme Court, and in proceedings before various administrative boards, including the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, and the Nevada Tax Commission.
In 2005, Mr. Reid successfully argued the Glenbrook Pier case, a complex dispute involving easement rights and NEPA compliance, before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. See TRPA v Glenbrook Preservation Association, 435 F.3d 611 (9th Cir. 2005). Also in 2005, he successfully argued the case of Steamboat Development Corp. v. Sierra Pacific Power Co. to the Nevada Supreme Court, a matter in which the Supreme Court confirmed an arbitration award requiring the Utility to change its methodology for calculating economic dispatch pricing for geothermal qualifying facilities.
Mr. Reid has practiced law in Nevada for over 10 years. After his clerkship, he served as a white collar crime prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada, where he gained extensive trial and appellate argument experience. Prior to joining Lewis and Roca, Mr. Reid was a partner in the Reno office of the law firm Lionel Sawyer & Collins. He received his J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1995, where he was Senior Editor for the Stanford Law Review.
