Political figures, professional athletes, business professionals and everyday Americans have something in common. Many are big fans of celebrity chef, world-renowned restaurateur and creator of caviar parfait, Michael Mina.

Two decades ago, Michael embarked on a quest to launch an upscale contemporary dining experience that has since spread like wildfire. With 20 restaurants across the country and plans to add several new restaurants each year, Michael is not at the forefront of the national dining scene – he is the scene.

Michael is admired for his creative, yet disciplined approach of balancing sweetness, acidity, spice and richness. From tuna tartar to butter-poached steaks, Michael’s dishes are often described as exceptional and exceptionally bold. Perhaps that’s why in 2002 tennis superstar Andre Agassi partnered with Michael to form the Mina Group, the official designation of Michael’s restaurant collection and culinary empire.

Throughout his 20-year legacy, Michael’s extraordinary dishes have helped him to receive numerous awards and accolades that most recently include:

  • “Restaurant of the Year” in Esquire’s annual 2011 “Best Restaurants” issue
  • Gayot Restaurateur of the Year 2011
  • Food Arts Silver Spoon Award winner May 2011

Michael has also been featured in various publications and seen on multiple media outlets such as Food & Wine, TIME and NBC’s The Today Show.

Getting back to his roots, his restaurant in San Francisco, self-titled MICHAEL MINA, occupies the same space (formerly AQUA) where he first established his culinary reputation 20 years ago. Although in familiar territory, Michael continues to push the boundaries of flavor in his newest restaurant. That’s probably why Esquire Magazine named MICHAEL MINA “2011 Restaurant of the Year.” As a whole, his restaurants remain a favorite of locals and a celebrated destination for travelers and food enthusiasts.

Of course, pioneering an upscale dynasty takes more than culinary acumen. To handle the important task of trademark searches, registrations and renewals, Michael turns to the only legal team with an appetite for success that matches his own – Lewis and Roca.

For the last five years, the experienced intellectual property attorneys at Lewis and Roca have worked to protect Michael’s intellectual property assets. Not having to worry about these details allows Michael to focus on what he does best: opening inventive restaurant concepts and creating unforgettable food experiences for his patrons. And with three new restaurants set to open this year, both sides are doing something right.
