Bayton, an associate in the Intellectual Property and Technology practice groups, elected to serve as the Secretary of the Executive Council of the Intellectual Property and Technology Section; Kimberly A. Demarchi, a partner in the Appellate and Commercial Litigation practice groups, elected as the Budget Officer of the Appellate Practice Section; Scott DeWald, a partner in the Corporate, Tax and Securities practice group, continues his appointment to the Executive Council of the Business Law Section as Senior Co-Vice Chair; Andrea L. Gonzales, an associate in the Environmental, Natural Resources and Utilities practice group, selected to serve on the informal Community Outreach Committee of the Native American Bar Association; Katosha Nakai, an associate in the Environmental, Natural Resources and Utilities, Tribal Affairs and Gaming, and Government Relations practice groups, elected as Chair Elect of the Arizona State Bar Indian Law Section; Robert G. Schaffer, a partner in the firm’s Commercial Litigation, Professional Liability and E-Discovery and Data Management practice groups, elected as Chairman of the Antitrust Section; David D. Weinzweig, a partner in the Commercial Litigation practice group, elected as the Vice Chair of the Antitrust Section.
Bayton is an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Group. She focuses her practice primarily in the areas of trademarks, copyrights, and sweepstakes/promotions law. Bayton counsels clients on trademark selection, clearance, registration and prosecution in the United States and around the world. She received her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law and her B.B.A. from the University of Iowa (Honors in Business Administration).
Demarchi is a partner in the firm’s Appellate and Commercial Litigation practice groups, where she represents public, private, and non-profit clients in civil appeals and in the litigation of complex matters. She represents clients at all stages of litigation, with a particular emphasis on litigating complex motions, advising clients and trial counsel on how to preserve and position issues for appeal, and briefing and arguing appellate cases. She received her J.D. from Yale Law School and her B.S. in History and Political Science from Arizona State University (summa cum laude).
DeWald is a partner in the firm’s Corporate, Tax and Securities practice group. He practices in the areas of corporate, securities, mergers and acquisitions, lending and other commercial transactions, with particular emphasis on the legal needs of high-tech, e-commerce and emerging companies and limited liability companies. DeWald received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and his B.A. from Yale University.
Gonzales is an associate in the firm's Environmental, Natural Resources and Utilities practice group. She assists with the myriad of state agencies that govern the rights to utilize waters within Arizona and evaluates the sources of water, the quantity of water and the documents supporting the uses of water. She also reviews historical water right claims and filings in order to provide clients with a clear understanding of what claims they have, what claims they can make, and what alternative resources are available. Gonzales received her J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law and her B.A. from the University of California Davis.
Nakai is an associate in the firm’s Environmental, Natural Resources and Utilities, Tribal Affairs and Gaming, and Government Relations practice groups. Her practice focuses on government regulation, infrastructure and resource development. She regularly represents corporate, small business, tribal and non-profit interests, focusing primarily on matters relating to water, environmental, natural resources, mining, utility and gaming issues. She received her J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law and her B.A. from Oklahoma City University (summa cum laude).
Schaffer is a partner in the firm’s Commercial Litigation, Professional Liability and E-Discovery and Data Management practice groups. He is also Chair of the firm’s Antitrust and Trade Regulation practice group. His practice is concentrated in the area of complex commercial litigation, including antitrust, class actions, lender liability, legal malpractice, constitutional and other commercial disputes. He received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Kansas (with Highest Distinction).
Weinzweig is a partner in the firm’s Commercial Litigation practice group. He concentrates his practice in complex commercial litigation and has substantial experience in antitrust litigation and counseling. He advises and represents clients at all stages of commercial disputes. He received his J.D. from Arizona State University College of Law and his B.A. from the University of Arizona.
