About Joice Bass
A partner in the firm’s Commercial Litigation Practice Group, Ms. Bass came to the practice of law after a successful first career in healthcare management as the CEO of a community health center in California. As a top-level business executive, Ms. Bass had ultimate responsibility for every aspect of her organization’s well-being and performance. That hands-on experience in corporate leadership gave Ms. Bass a deep appreciation for the strategic decision-making that businesspeople and entrepreneurs in rapidly evolving industries engage in every single day. Combined with her legal skills and knowledge—honed over more than a decade of litigating commercial disputes now—Ms. Bass’s business experience places her in a unique position to provide clients with sound advice and counsel that takes into consideration not only the law but market realities as well.
Ms. Bass counsels business clients on how to avoid, prevent and/or resolve commercial disputes such as those involving breach of contract and related tort claims (e.g., intentional interference, breach of good faith and fair dealing, fraud and misrepresentation). She also advises businesses regarding what constitutes unfair competition under the law (e.g., theft of trade secrets) and how to legally combat it when necessary. Ms. Bass has extensive experience representing business clients in high-stakes/high-value (and thus usually contentious) litigation, including complex partnership/shareholder disputes involving fiduciary duties and corporate governance matters.
Ms. Bass has represented business clients from a broad spectrum of industries including gaming and hospitality, fine art, alcoholic beverages distribution, healthcare, telecommunications and real estate development.
