About Emily Cates

Ms. Cates is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group and focuses her practice on business and real estate litigation and counseling. Ms. Cates represents clients in federal and state court and has trial and appellate experience.

Representative Cases/Matters

  • Class action defense, including representing insurers in breach of contract, unfair trade practices, and bad faith cases.
  • Representation of mining operator in a lease dispute resulting in a jury verdict for our client of $11,190,000.00. The verdict was one of the top five jury verdicts in Arizona in 2007.
  • Representation of client in dispute regarding non-compete/non-solicitation agreements and trade secrets, including defending against temporary restraining order and injunction. 
  • Representation of lenders in lawsuits involving allegations of improper lending practices. 
  • Briefing various litigation cases on appeal before the Arizona Court of Appeals and Ninth Circuit and conducting oral argument on various litigation matters before the Maricopa County Superior Court, Arizona District Court, Arizona Court of Appeals, and Ninth Circuit.
